Nonviolent communication is the path to a better future.

https://www.nvcnextgen.org/Humanity has come a long way since it’s beginnings. Although there is still plenty of violence (too much) in the world today, the world of 2017 is vastly more friendly than the world of 1800, which itself was vastly more friendly than the world of 1000 AD. There have been lots of advancements and changes that have improved the state of the world. Medical advances have made it possible for people to live much longer, and the common flu no longer kills people like it once did. Technology has made it possible to communicate with people anywhere in the world, and it has boosted access to information and education, two things that greatly improved the state of the world. Also, societies are much more peaceful than they once were. To be fair, there’s still a long way to go with rooting out all forms of violence around the world, but it’s possible to foresee a world in a few centuries where countries no longer go to war with one another and where violence between individuals isn’t exceedingly rare.

To reach that peaceful world it’s going to take a lot of effort on the part of people living today, and that effort must start with more education about nonviolent communication. Nonviolent communication is a practice whereby people agree to resolve their issues via communicating verbally and non-aggressively with one another, rather than letting their emotions get the best of them and being violent towards one another. People today are still far too quick to resort to violence when they’ve been insulted. There are domestic partners who are violent towards one another in front of their children, modeling that kind of behavior for the next generation. There are people who hit random strangers because those strangers are rude to them. And there are entire societies that go to war with other societies because they feel they’ve been slighted in some way.

The only way the world is going to move away from violence and towards nonviolent communication is if the children of the world are trained in that way. Nonviolent communication programs are going to play a big role in determining the future world, and it’s important that these programs reach kids when they’re young. Of course, these programs also have to be targeted at the teachers and parents who are modeling behavior for today’s youth, because so many kids just end up behaving in the way that the adults around them behaved. If the world is going to become a more peaceful and respectful place, it’s going to take a concerted effort on everyone’s part to model nonviolent communication for the children of today. They need to be shown that they can resolve their issues by talking with one another rather than fighting with one another.

This is the goal of organizations like Nonviolent Communication for the Next Generation. They’re working with kids, parents, teachers, janitors, and siblings to train them all on how to resolve conflicts in a nonviolent manner. It’s organizations like this that give us all hope for the future world.
